Amber are looking to recruit a talented and highly-motivated Senior Interior designer to become part of the team in our London studio. Preferably with five-plus years experience to join us on a full-time permanent basis (freelance also considered) to work on a range of prestigious and exciting projects. We design, build and project manage high end commercial and residential projects.

We are keen to hear from candidates looking to develop an interior design career in the commercial and residential sectors. You would be involved in all stages of a project, from client briefing, concept development/design to client presentation. You will need to be self-motivated, extremely organised and thorough, have excellent communication skills and have an exceptional eye for design. In addition, the successful candidate will preferably have a degree level qualification in interior design/interior architecture.

Key Responsibilities/skills:

• Excellent presentation, conceptual and visualising skills
• Excellent client-facing ability and presentation skills
• Create mood boards and presentations for the team and clients
• Design floor/furniture plan layouts and elevations
• Ability to manage a number of projects at any one time at different project stages
• On site experience
• Annotating and reviewing technical design drawings
• Efficiency and ability to consistently meet project deadlines
• Highly organised and able to work under pressure
• Understanding the market within commercial and residential sectors
• Team player with a great attitude and natural leadership skills
• Confident in running projects independently
• Coordinate project design site meetings with contractors, architects, suppliers and clients
• Highly skilled in detailing with a great attention to detail

 Qualifications/skills:

• A minimum of five years professional experience in commercial/residential interior design
• BA (Hons) Interior Design/Interior Architecture qualification (or equivalent)
• Proficient in AutoCAD – essential
• Proficient in SketchUp, Photoshop
• Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office, Excel, and Powerpoint desirable
• Knowledge and experience in all phases of Interior Design: from schematic planning to construction administration
• Knowledge of commercial construction materials and FF&E sources and specifications
• A working knowledge of UK building systems, regulations and construction methods
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Role/Responsibilities

The Amber site manager is responsible for ensuring that a construction project is completed on time and within budget working alongside the amber Project manager or Amber Partner

  • Supervising and overseeing the direction of the project (or a package)
  • Ensuring that the client’s specifications and requirements are met
  • Reviewing progress and liaising with the Project Manager to monitor costs
  • Liaising with the client, other construction professionals and sometimes members of the public
  • Have confidence in own ability to intelligently communicate with design team/client as well as effectively lead the trades
  • Ensure the delivery against the project schedule ‘the programme of works’ and write short term schedules of works / programmes when necessary
  • Monitor site safety on a regular basis and ensure that the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act are enforced
  • Coordinating and supervising construction workers
  • Monitor and maintain the project construction schedule on a weekly basis and highlight / forecast risk with the project programme if required
  • Maintain and enforce good construction standards and quality control
  • Raise and discuss relevant issues at the job site meetings
  • Prepare and issue minutes of all site meetings in a timely manner
  • Control and monitor labour, material and equipment expenses in line with the project prelim allowance
  • Maintaining quality control procedures
  • Negotiating securing permits and licences
  • Ensure all required municipal inspections are performed
  • Prepare and expedite project snag lists in a timely manner

Qualifications: 

To be considered for this position you will possess the following skills, attributes, and abilities:

  • Minimum 3 Years’ experience as a Site Manager on new or refurbishment styles of construction in commercial and residential, projects
  • College or university NVQ / degree in a construction related field (trade background training is acceptable)
  • Be SMSTS qualified
  • Be first aid at work trained
  • Ideally hold a black CSCS safety card
  • Ideally have asbestos awareness training
  • Ideally have PASMA training
  • Must understand construction terms, scheduling and planning concepts
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and ideally have experience using Excel and Microsoft Project
  • Excellent organisational, presentation, and interpersonal skills

  • Ensure completion of and track all independent testing and inspections as required
  • Issue monthly progress applications for payment and invoicing to consultant and client including final retentions
  • Maintain and enforce good construction standards and quality control
  • Control and monitor labour, material and equipment expenses
  • Prepare monthly cost forecasting summaries and present these to the business partners on a monthly basis
  • Ensure that “as built” drawings are prepared on an on-going basis by all trades during the construction period and issue final close outs to consultant/client accordingly
  • Ensure all required municipal inspections are performed.
  • Prepare and expedite project snag lists in a timely manner
